If you could describe the smell it might help.... Tanneries routinely put additives into the tumbler when prosessing bear hides. Theses additives will hep soften the hide and glisten the hair. Most are noticeable but often not offensive. I personally like the smell of tanning oils but some of my customers have commented that it's a bit strong. On the other hand if it smells like the neighbors tom cat we may have a different problem. There are several products available to neutralize odors but I think it would be best to identify the odor first.
Good Luck

Jeff

Ridgefire, if it is not a rotten smell, and it is somewhat of a chemical smell then that is an easy solution. The one thing that you do not want to do is use stuff on it that will be enough to rehydrate the skin.

The first thing that I would use, is just plain old fabreeze, just spray it down and brush it in. make sure that when you are spraying it in you brush the hair back so it penetrates deeply, and then brush it. You may have to do this a couple of times and as long as you are not spraying in one spot enough to rehydrate you will be ok to do this as many times as you want to.

Hope this helps you
